Dr. Anil Sooklal, Deputy Director-General: Asia and Middle East, Department of Foreign Affairs and Lee Kwang-Jae, Director-General of Middle East and African Affairs Bureau, MOFAT signing the Agreed Minutes of the Second PCM.

In an effort to structure and strengthen bilateral relations South Africa and South Korea held a Policy Consultative Meeting in Pretoria in April 1997.

During the second PCM from 14 to 16 June 2004 in Seoul it was decided to aim to convene the meeting annually in alternate countries.

The third PCM held on 28 and 29 July 2005 in Pretoria gave new impetus to the relations.

The recent PCM was led by Dr. A. Sooklal, Deputy Director General of Asia and Middle East in the South African Department of Foreign Affairs and Mr. SJ Son, Director-General of Middle East and African Affairs, Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Four Working Groups took part in the Third PCM:

   Trade & Investment
   Culture & Sports
   Information & Communication Technology (ICT)
   Energy & Labour

The next PCM is scheduled to be held in Seoul in 2006.
