According to the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs there were 2 750 Koreans living in South Africa on 31 January 2004.

200 of these are self-employed, 550 are students and 26 are working for Korean companies. The rest are missionaries, family members and dependants.

Of the 550 students, 350 are completing their formal education at South African primary and high schools while the remainder study at language institutes, universities and missionary schools.

Most Koreans live in Johannesburg (1300) with Cape Town having the second highest number (600).
